Elva Espinosa has passed away...

On June 4, 2024, Elva Espinosa passed away.  She was one of my favorite friends (Dave's mom).  We loved hanging out with her and Otto.  She was the energizer bunny and it was such a shock when Dave called to tell us.  We sure loved her.

Elva Gloria Espinosa

February 28, 1937 — June 4, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Elva Gloria Espinosa, 87, on June 4, 2024. Elva was born on February 28, 1937, in Los Rincones, Colorado.

Elva graduated class valedictorian from Manassa High School in 1956. She married the love of her life, Otaviano Espinosa, on February 23, 1957, in Taos, New Mexico. Shortly afterward they started their 26-year military journey, which took them to several duty stations around the world. Mom enjoyed selling Avon for over 10 years where she obtained several Albee Awards for outstanding sales achievement. They spent their retirement life in Layton, UT, where mom enjoyed spending time with family, listening to Elvis, reading, crocheting, gardening, crafts, vacationing, visiting family in Colorado, cheering on her Utah Jazz, Denver Broncos, and the fighting Irish of Notre Dame. She especially cherished her time spent with her grandchildren for movie nights, working on puzzles, and teaching them the tradition of making Biscochitos. She was a lifelong Catholic and member of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She was a loving mother who will be greatly missed not only by her family, but by numerous friends and neighbors.

She is survived by her husband, Otaviano Espinosa, and her five children, Miguel (Sandi) Espinosa of Hooper, UT, David (Vicki) Espinosa of Layton UT, Cynthia Espinosa of Layton, UT, Cathy (Benito) Robles of Kaysville, UT, and Julie (Ted) Griffiths of South Weber, Utah. Eight grandchildren, Patricia (David) Shaeffer, Valerie (Greg) Boyles, Melanie (Brett) Townsend, Myranda (Tim) Wood, Danielle (Michael) Essler, Alina Robles, Bryce (Cheyenne) Espinosa, Jacob Barney and twelve great grandchildren. Seven siblings, Vernal (Clorinda) Medina, Lupe Medina, Donna (Pat) Martinez, Manuel (Lita) Medina, Ubaldo Medina, Rose (Clink) Martinez, Gloria (Oscar) Villanova, and Debbie (Mohammad) Mogalled and sister-in-law Judy Medina.

Elva was preceded in death by her parents, Alfirio and Elsie Medina, brothers, John and Joe Medina, sister Mary Davis, and sisters-in-law Lucille and Lucy Medina.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday June 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 Chapel Street, Layton, Utah. Friends may visit family Friday June 14 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah  from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by a vigil with Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

I attended her mass on Saturday, June 15, 2024, and internment at the cemetery.   It was a beautiful tribute to her.  I felt so bad that Dave and Vicki both tested positive for covid.

She will truly be missed.
