On Monday, August 12, 2024, Keith and I made our way to St. George, Utah. We stayed in the Olson's home in Hurricane. Our trip was to help get Kamryn settled in at Utah Tech University, formerly Dixie State College. Jamie attended 28 years ago, and Skyler attended 24 years ago. So crazy!
We decided to try taking the EV Truck to St. George. It took us 9 1/2 hours to get there. We had issues charging again.
We stopped in Parowan and visited my dad's grave at the Parowan Cemetery. We put up a wind spinner and boy did it spin!
My aunt Retta, my aunt Norine, and my dad are all buried in Parowan. My cousin Danny is buried there too.
We got to the Hurricane House, we unpacked our bags, and we had dinner. We visited and then went to bed. Kami and Jamie attended Freshman Orientation all day on Monday. They were so hot and tired.
On Tuesday, Jamie, Kamryn, and I got ready and left for the university to move her in. We spent almost two hours in line (in her car) and finally we got to move her in her dorm room.
The process was pretty slick; it just took so long in line. There were faculty, staff, and student ambassadors there to help the students move into the dorms. They had huge red bins that they filled up with the student's stuff and helped them take it to their dorm room.
We helped Kami get settled in her room. We hung up her clothes and put her stuff away. Her roommate came in a little later and we got to meet her and her family. They were really nice.
We finished up at the dorms and then we went to lunch so Bella could get her things unpacked.
We ate lunch at Tiffany's Creperie - Breakfast at Tiffany's. I had forgotten how amazing the food is there. I treated Jamie and Kami to brunch/lunch. Then I drove Jamie's car back to the Hurricane House to spell off Keith who was watching Skyler. Keith was exhausted from the drive and frustration of the trip.
Jamie came home and we fixed some quesadillas for dinner. We played Yahtzee and Kami beat the heck out of our score. She got several Yahtzee's.
Kamryn met a young man at orientation. He kept asking her out, so they went to the movies. We visited and then went to bed. Kami spent the night at the dorms, because her Trailblazer class (like First Year Experience) was bright and early on Wednesday morning. We had an appointment to get her car fixed at a garage by the university, so Jamie made us breakfast (Strawberry Pancakes and Scrambled Eggs) and then we dropped her car off to get fixed. Keith took us to Ross to shop for a few things that Kami needed and then we went to Lowe's to get Kamryn a plant. We waited at the university until almost 1:00, then we took the things we bought up to her dorm room. We also took a few pictures in her dorm room.
We were pleasantly surprised at how much room these ladies had in their suite. It is just like a new apartment with a full size rig, microwave, lounge area with a plasma TV. So nice. There are two showers and vanity areas as well as two toilet areas.
There is a laundry on their floor, and a kitchen with ovens, sink, refrigerators, places to sit and eat, etc.
There is a balcony with a couple of chairs so they can sit outside.
I had to get a picture of Kamryn with her roommates. I think they are going to have so much fun!
We dropped Jamie and Kamryn off at Jamie's car and they ran a few errands. Keith, Skyler, and I went back to the Hurricane House. We rested a bit and then Jamie and Kami met us back at the house. An hour and a half later, we picked up Kamryn's repaired car, and then we headed to Red Robin for dinner.
Our waitress Lori was from Ogden and had been a student at WSU. She noticed my shirt right away. She was so kind. The food was fantastic. Red Robin will always hold a special place in our hearts because of Travis - he was a server there for years.
We finished dinner and dessert, and then we headed to campus. The University was having a huge Block Party, so we wanted to grab a few pictures and say goodbye to Kami before the party.
Goodbyes, see-ya-laters...are super hard! Tears were shed. We are so excited for Kamryn and know that she will be a success at everything she does! We left her and went back to the Hurricane House. We hung out and then finally went to bed.
We got up early on Thursday morning and packed our stuff. I cleaned and vacuumed and did a load of towels. Jamie and Skyler took off about an hour before us. We made sure everything was good, then we ventured home. It was a little bit better on the way home, but it is still so much longer in the truck (having to charge it). We will probably travel in the Subaru from now on.
We got home around 6:30 p.m. We were so happy to be home and see Rebel. He was happy to see us too. Like they say...There is no place like home.
